Steve Smith re-joined the British Bobsleigh programme as Development Coach ahead of the 2020/21 off season.
Steve previously spent six years with the team as a brakeman, representing Great Britain between 2004 and 2010 and pushing on both side handles and the back handle throughout his time as an international athlete.
He competed at four World Championships - in Calgary in 2005, St Moritz in 2007, Lake Placid in 2008 and Altenberg in 2009 - recording a career high fifth-place finish in Moritz 15 years ago.
Steve has an extensive bobsleigh background in the military as well as with the GB programme having been a Paratrooper for 24 years. As well as serving all over the world on operational tours, Steve put together the Parachute Regiment Bobsleigh Team in 2013 and has helped it grow into not only one of the most successful teams in the British military but also one that has provided a pathway for international success for the likes of current GB athletes Nick Gleeson, Olly Butterworth and Luke Dawes.
He held the role of Head coach of the Parachute Regiment Bobsleigh Team and was also Head of Performance and Push Coach for the Army and was awarded a Commendation by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales.
Since leaving the Army, Steve has set up his own fitness company, SWS Performance Fitness, and worked for Bare Arms TV and Film as their Head Physical Trainer.
Immediately prior to starting his new role with the BBSA, Steve spent time in central Africa as the Head of Physical Development for Africa Parks in their renowned anti-poaching programme.
